Ghosts:

Apparitions - ghosts who appear solid, partial, visible or slightly invisible. Most of the time, they are somewhat transparent and appear as they did when they were living. An apparition is aware of the living and can interact either friendly or unfriendly. They are thought to have unfinished business in this world.

Vortex - a vortex is a very strange and mysterious phenomena. They usually take on the appearance of a swirling funnel shape when moving about. They can also appear in pictures as being long and narrow and having a tread like design within their body. There are many theories as to what they really are, including a visiting relative or a former resident of the home. It is also believed that it is a vehicle to transport spirts.

Shadow Ghosts - they appear as a shadow of sorts. They look a bit like ecto-mist but are dark grey to black in colour. In photographs, it’s easy to confuse them with natural shadows, so be careful with your analysis. They are usually extremely sneaky and evasive. When they are spotted it’s usually out of the corner of your eye or as they are darting through a wall. They can also be spotted as a reflection in shinny objects and mirrors. Birds and cats are especially sensitive to them.

Orbs - the most photographed anomalies captured on film by ghost hunters. They most often show up as transparent or translucent balls of light hovering above the ground. Believed by many to be the soul or spirit of those that have passed on from this life. The orb shape is the most convenient way for them to travel around in their present state. Also believed to be balls of energy that are around when spirts are around.

Hauntings:

Residual Haunting - you see the same apparition doing the same things all the time, you hear the same noises, possibly at the same time of day, each time they are heard, and the ghost doesn’t seem to even realize that you are there. These are signs of a residual haunting. A residual haunting is a playback of a past event. The apparitions involved are not spirits, they are “recordings” of the event. Video and audio tapes capture sounds and images on a film of special material that has been oxidized or rusted. Certain building materials, such as slate used in older castles and stone structures and iron nails used in many older buildings, have properties similar to that of the tapes. When a traumatic event occurs or a time of heightened emotions, these materials record the event for future playback. Everything is made up of energy and energy cannot be destroyed. The materials store the energy created by these traumatic events and plays them back at a later date.
